Poetry for Those Who Should Never Be Forgotten
There are people who should never be forgotten – the seniors – those who worked for the society their entire lives and now they are often left behind, powerless, helpless and abandoned not only by their families but also by the state and its institutions. Some of them are lucky though to find their last home in senior houses. Poetry is a way of bringing more love and happiness into daily lives of the elderly. Every year we like to visit The Home of the Sun in Brno where we gather to remember poems from its residents’ childhood and youth as well as the time of their first romantic encounters. We also cooperate with the Day Care Centre “Garden” and its patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease, as well as with The House of Harmony – both of which were established by a Christian non-profit-organisation Diakonia Vsetín. The reminiscence therapy based on poetry readings helps the seniors to train and recollect their memory. The elderly clients always fully enjoy these cooperative meetings.
