We stopped briefly in front of the entrance to the building. The streets had suddenly become deserted, the neon lights seemed to shine brighter in the oppressive, muggy air. Ominous black clouds roiled overhead, filling the entire sky. Outside the café opposite, two waiters stacked chairs and secured tables, one of them hastily rolling back the awnings just in time for the first gust of wind. To the west, a flash of lightning split the sky in two as the first fat drops of rain splattered the pavement. The ensuing crack of thunder deafened us for a moment.
“Hana, do you think she's still watching us?” I turned to her.
“I guess so.”
We ran, without stopping, to the car.
